Kannapolis, N.C., May 1, 2012 – The David H. Murdock Research Institute (DHMRI) and Bent Creek Institute, Inc., an affiliate of The North Carolina Arboretum, announced the signing of an ongoing collaboration to provide purity and compositional testing services to supply chain stakeholders in the botanical natural products industry.  This multi-laboratory non-profit collaborative in North Carolina, named the US Botanical Safety Laboratory (USBSL), will couple the expertise and identity testing capabilities of the Bent Creek Germplasm Repository of The North Carolina Arboretum with the world-class analytical laboratories at DHMRI, and the microbial, pesticides, and phytochemical test services of The NC BioNetwork BioBusiness Center at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, to offer clients a unique resource for confirming the safety of botanical ingredients. Other campuses of the University of North Carolina system will also participate in specialized USBSL testing service offerings.
